Heavy rain forecast for several provinces

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 millimetres is expected today in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts.

The Department of Meteorology announced that showers or thundershowers may occur in a few places in the Uva province and the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2:00 p.m.

Fairly strong winds blowing gustily at times between 30 and 40 kilometres per hour are predicted over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, and Southern provinces, and the Trincomalee district.

The Department of Meteorology requested the public to take necessary precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
