The Walana Central Anti-Corruption Strike Force raided a slaughterhouse in the Mahabage area of Ragama for attempting to sell beef during the Poson Poya holiday, a period when slaughterhouses are to remain closed.
Authorities arrested four suspects and seized over 5,000 kilograms of meat following the removal of animal skulls, bones, and non-consumable parts from the facility.
During questioning, the suspects revealed that they slaughtered the buffaloes to supply beef to hotels and restaurants in Colombo and surrounding areas.
