Army launches nationwide dengue prevention operation

A large-scale dengue control and public awareness programme took place across the island today (05), targeting areas with a high risk of disease transmission.

The operation, organised in line with the 'Clean Sri Lanka' national initiative, proceeded under the direct guidance and supervision of Army Commander Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo.

A total of 2,026 army personnel, representing various security force headquarters, divisions, brigades, and units, participated in the effort to mitigate health risks.

Key locations covered during the operation included Colombo Gunasinghepura and the private bus terminal, Pettah Floating Market, Kaelapola, Delgoda bus terminal, Panchikawatta Abeesingharamaya Temple, Crow Island Children’s Park, Homagama, Kaduwela, Battaramulla, Nawagamuwa, the area surrounding the Department of Immigration and Emigration, Galle, Matara, Ratnapura, Kurunegala Ethagala, Kegalle bus terminal, Wennappuwa, and Palavi.

Troops focused on cleaning mosquito breeding sites, removing garbage, and conducting awareness sessions for civilians, school students, and teachers.
