3-member committee appointed to probe Negombo Prison clash

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the appointment of a special committee to conduct a formal and comprehensive investigation into the violent incident that occurred inside Negombo Prison.

The decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting held today (06).

According to the Department of Government Information, the committee will submit a report to the government outlining the causes of the incident, recommended follow-up actions, and measures to prevent similar violent incidents in the future.

The appointed three-member committee will be chaired by retired Supreme Court Judge Priyantha Fernando.

The other members are retired Additional Solicitor General, President’s Counsel Milinda Gunathilaka, and President’s Counsel Mohan Weerakoon.
