650 Negombo Prison inmates transferred to other prisons

Following the violent incident that occurred inside the Negombo Prison, authorities have taken steps to immediately transfer 650 remand prisoners to other correctional facilities, police said.

Accordingly, inmates have been transferred to the Dumbara, Anuradhapura, and Angunakolapelessa Prisons.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the unrest that began in the Negombo Prison yesterday afternoon has risen to 26.

This includes seven prison officers and 19 inmates.
