An inmate who was transferred to the Angunakolapelessa prison following the unrest at the Negombo prison died last night, according to the Senior Deputy Inspector General's Office in charge of the Southern Province.
The inmate died at around 10:15 pm last night after being admitted to the hospital by prison officials to receive treatment due to being in a critical condition.
The magistrate's inquest and the post-mortem examination of the inmate are scheduled to be conducted today (7), and the Angunakolapelessa police are conducting further investigations.
Meanwhile, another inmate transferred to the Boossa prison after the conflict at the Negombo prison reportedly died last night while receiving treatment at the Galle hospital for a sudden illness.
