Showers or thundershowers are expected in several provinces and districts today, 12 July.
The Department of Meteorology announced that several spells of rain could occur in Sabaragamuwa, Western, and Uva provinces, as well as in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, Matara, Ampara, and Batticaloa districts.
Additionally, showers or thundershowers are likely in a few places within Uva province and Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2:00 pm.
Mainstream weather across the rest of the island will remain predominantly dry.
Strong winds gusting up to 40 to 50 kilometres per hour are anticipated at times on the western slopes of the central hills, North-central province, and in Monaragala, Puttalam, Hambantota, Trincomalee, and Mannar districts.
The Department of Meteorology advised the public to take precautionary measures to minimise risks from temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
