Dengue cases surpass 13,000 in 12 days

A total of 13,293 dengue patients were reported within just the first 12 days of the month July.

The National Dengue Control Unit noted that with this figure, the cumulative count of dengue cases recorded so far has reached 68,672.

Meanwhile, the fatalities due to dengue stood at 47.

A special mosquito control programme commenced today, covering 60 high-risk dengue zones across 11 districts islandwide due to the current situation, the National Dengue Control Unit announced.

The year 2017 stands as the period with the highest number of dengue cases recorded so far, with the figure noted as 186,101.

During that year, the average daily reporting rate of dengue patients remained at 510.

Meanwhile, the number of daily reported patients continuously exceeded the 1,000 mark due to the rapidly spreading disease.

The number of designated high-risk dengue zones across the country has escalated to 175 at present.

Multiple programmes were launched in many areas with the aim of controlling the spread of the disease.
