A higher risk of HIV AIDS spreading among men compared to women emerged in Sri Lanka, the Ministry of Health states.
The ministry revealed statistics and details regarding this matter during a special press conference held today (13).
An increase in homosexual relationships among men became a primary cause for this risk to rise rapidly, health sectors pointed out.
The number of patients reported annually have gradually increased, and recent data specifically from the years 2023, 2024, and 2025 show that the reporting of infected individuals rose, and the reporting of infections among men remains at a noticeably high value when comparing the spread ratio of this disease between males and females.
The Ministry of Health further mentioned that a higher number of HIV infected men are reported specifically in Colombo and Gampaha Districts, and the reason behind as the experts speculate, is the frequently migrating larger population in these districts.
