Airbus transaction court case postponed until October 13

The court case filed on the controversial Airbus transaction has been postponed until October 13. Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama issued the order today when the case was called before the court.

A progress report on the ongoing investigation will be presented to the court on a future date, the Commission to Investigate Allegations on Bribey or Correution (CIABOC) informed the court.

Meanwhile, former Chief Executive Officer of SriLankan Airlines Kapila Chandrasena, who was previously named as a suspect in the case, passed away.

During the proceedings, Attorney Udara Muhandiram informed the court that he was appearing on behalf of Nimal Perera.

However, the Chief Magistrate noted that the Commission did not yet name Perera as a suspect.

Furthermore, Attorney Harshana Matharaarachchi, appearing on behalf of suspect Priyanka Niyomali, argued that issuing a red warrant against her remains unacceptable as she resides abroad.

The Chief Magistrate postponed the case until October 13 after considering all the submissions, directing the Bribery Commission to report further progress on that date.
