Sri Lanka to host BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers, Senior Officials meetings 2027

The 2027 BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers' and Senior Officials' meetings are scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka.

Cabinet granted approval to host this series of meetings in Sri Lanka in 2027.

The relevant series of meetings is scheduled to take place on March 17 and 18, 2027, in Colombo.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved this decision following a proposal presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism.

Sri Lanka received the hosting rights for this series of meetings, which rotate among member states once every two years.

Seven member countries comprise this organisation, which aims to develop technological and economic cooperation in the Bay of Bengal region.

Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Thailand are the member countries.

Member countries work jointly through this organisation particularly for the development of many sectors, including ensuring regional food security, drug control, agriculture, and tourism.
