Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena today (15) ordered to issue an open warrant for Priyanka Nayomali Wijenayaka, wife of former SriLankan Airlines Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kapila Chandrasena, in connection with an ongoing investigation into the Airbus transaction.
The court issued this order following submissions made by the investigative officer who appeared in court on behalf of the Criminal Investigation Department when the case related to the incident was called.
The Magistrate ordered this after considering a request made by the Criminal Investigation Department to issue an open warrant in the English language, as a day warrant was already issued for the second suspect, Priyanka Nayomali.
President's Counsel Anil Silva, who appeared in court on behalf of the sureties who bailed out the second suspect, namely former cricketer Aravinda de Silva and his wife Priyangi Anushka Wijenayaka, requested the court to remove them from that suretyship. Furthermore, the President's Counsel informed the court that the bail amount of 10 million rupees can be confiscated. At that time, the Magistrate observed the case file and stated that a bail amount of 200 lakh rupees, not 10 million rupees, must be deposited to the court, and that facts regarding it should be presented to the court before confiscating that bail money. The President's Counsel then informed the court that his two clients need to travel abroad, so he requested to remove them from the suretyship.
Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered here to present in writing to the court the reasons for removing the bail of the two sureties who bailed out Priyanka Nayomali Wijenayaka, the wife of former Chief Executive Officer Kapila Chandrasena, and for the confiscation of those bail funds.
The case is scheduled to be called again on July 22.
The first suspect related to this incident, former SriLankan Airlines CEO Kapila Chandrasena, is dead.
