‘This war was unnecessary,’ and no objectives achieved

Marwan Muasher, Jordan’s former foreign minister and deputy prime minister, says it will be extremely difficult once the war ends for Iran and its Gulf neighbours to reconcile after repeated attacks.

“We believe strongly that in the end there has to be a diplomatic solution. Military solutions have not worked,” he told Al Jazeera. “This war was unnecessary. It has not achieved any of the objectives it set out to do.”

Muasher noted that the US-Israel war on Iran has resulted in a major blow to the global economy and a loss of “whatever goodwill existed between Iran and its neighbours”.

“Iran needs to understand that it has to be part of the region and that means stopping interference in other countries’ affairs,” he said. “Iran is making it very difficult for Gulf states to engage in any sort of diplomatic solution to this conflict.”
