President Anura Kumara Dissanayake instructs to promote Delft, Analaitivu and Nainativu as green energy islands
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake instructed to promote the islands of Delft, Analaitivu and Nainativu as 'Green Energy Islands', focusing on the Hybrid Renewable Energy System (HRES) projects currently operational on those islands.
The President gave these instructions during the progress review meeting of projects implemented under the 2026 budget allocations for the Ministry of Energy and the 2027 pre-budget discussion held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (15).
During the meeting, the progress of projects implemented by the Ministry of Energy under the 2026 budget allocations, the projects that can be completed within this year, and the allocations required for the upcoming year were extensively examined.
Special attention was also paid to the early resumption of energy projects started with the assistance of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which were halted midway due to the recent economic crisis.
The President enquired from relevant officials regarding the progress and future plans of several major projects currently underway and scheduled to start in the future, including the second underground power transmission line (220 kV) from Kerawalapitiya to the Colombo Port, the Sampur - Kappalthurai transmission development project, the New Habarana - Kappalthurai Electricity Transmission Development Project (CEATP), the project to install STATCOM at the Padukka 220kV Grid Substation (GSS), as well as the rooftop solar power integration and Virtual Net Metering Project.
