A fine of Rs.200,000 was imposed on two defendants who pleaded guilty to selling local Keeri Samba rice at prices higher than the fixed rate.
Colombo Additional Magistrate Darshima Premaratne ordered the fine today.
The two defendants own shops in Elpitigala Mawatha, Colombo 8 and Borella, Colombo 8.
The Consumer Affairs Authority arrested the suspects and produced them in court following a raid carried out on information that rice was being sold at high prices in those shops.
