The first printed copy of a special 'Coffee Table' commemorative book published by the Sri Lankan Embassy in Washington, D.C. to mark the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States of America, was presented to the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs of the US State Department, Allison Hooker, by the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the United States, Mahinda Samarasinghe.
This official presentation took place at the US State Department.
The book was created with the objective of further commemorating the long-standing friendship and strong bilateral cooperation existing between Sri Lanka and the United States.
It includes numerous pieces of information regarding important milestones in the relations between the two countries over many years, various forms of assistance provided to Sri Lanka by America, as well as prominent individuals who provided exceptional contributions toward the social and economic development of both nations.
Furthermore, this commemorative book consists of numerous historical and current photographs as well as detailed colourful notes.
Sri Lanka remains constantly committed to further strengthening the bilateral relations existing between the two countries, Ambassador Mahinda Samarasinghe stated during the discussion held here.
The Ambassador also informed the Under Secretary during this meeting that necessary steps will be taken in the future to translate this valuable book into the Sinhala and Tamil languages for the reference of all people living in Sri Lanka.
The step taken by the Sri Lankan Embassy to document historical information on the relations of the two countries in this manner, at a historical moment when America celebrates its 250th anniversary of independence, earned the high appreciation of US Under Secretary Allison Hooker.
