Case against Yoshitha Rajapaksa postponed

The case filed against former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's son Yoshitha Rajapaksa under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act was ordered by the Colombo High Court to be called for further hearing on August 20.

The case was called today before Colombo High Court Judge Udesh Ranatunga.

The accused, Yoshitha Rajapaksa, did not appear before court at that time.

Representing him, President's Counsel Sampath Mendis submitted facts to court stating that his client was unwell and requested another date for the trial.

Considering the facts presented, the High Court Judge ordered the case to be called on August 20 for further hearing.

The judge warned witnesses, including Navy officers who appeared in court to give evidence today, to appear before court on the next date.

The Attorney General filed this case against Yoshitha Rajapaksa alleging that an offence was committed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act through the illegal acquisition of five land plots worth over 73,000,000 rupees located in the Dehiwala and Ratmalana areas.
