Two Wattala shooting suspects arrested in India

Two Sri Lankans arrested while attempting to illegally enter Dhanushkodi, India by boat are suspected to be involved in a shooting that occurred last Thursday in the Wattala area.

Those arrested were identified as two residents of the Wattala area, aged 30 and 34.

One of the suspects was identified as Ganeshan Vigneshwaran from the Hendala area in Wattala, while the other was identified as Maheswaran Lusinath, a resident of the Aweriwatta area in Wattala.

The Coast Guard of that country arrested them yesterday (24).

The arrest was made while they arrived in Dhanushkodi illegally by boat from Sri Lanka.

Reporting on the matter, the Hindu newspaper in India stated that Sri Lankan authorities suspect their involvement in a shooting that took place during a party in the Wattala area recently.

Information indicates that three drug-related cases are also filed against these two suspects in Sri Lanka.

Interrogation revealed that they departed from the Pesalai area by boat on the 23rd and arrived in Dhanushkodi yesterday (24).

Indian reports stated that an amount of Rs. 300,000 was paid for the boat journey.

Furthermore, interrogation revealed that Ganeshan Vigneshwaran travelled to India on seven occasions, and once each to Malaysia, France, and Dubai.

It was revealed that a travel ban was imposed on him in 2020 in connection with a case being heard at the Fort Magistrate's Court.

Additionally, Wattala Police arrested him in 2018 for drug trafficking, and the Criminal Investigation Department arrested him in 2020.

The other individual, Maheswaran Lusinath, was arrested by Negombo Police in 2016 for drug trafficking.

The suspects are currently detained at a special camp within the Tiruchi Central Prison premises.
