A Sub-Inspector (SI) attached to the Wathupitiwala Investment Zone Police Post, who addressed the public contrary to the police code of discipline has been suspended, Police Media Spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler said today (26).
The Police Media Spokesperson mentioned that this officer was immediately interdicted over the relevant incident, and a disciplinary inquiry commenced.
Police say the incident has occured around 10.45 am on July 23 in front of a private institution located near the Wathupitiwala Hospital.
Police also mention that it appeared the behaviour of the relevant officer brings disrepute to the Sri Lanka Police and the entire public service, establishing a bad precedent for other officers.
Since further keeping him in service creates a severe stain on the reputation and pride of the police service, action was taken according to the provisions of the Establishments Code, Police mention.
Pointing out that maintaining a disciplined police service winning public trust and respect remains the primary objective, Police mention that such improper behaviour from officers bound to protect law and discipline will not be approved at all.
Sri Lanka Police also mentioned in a post on their official Facebook page that they remain constantly bound to stand justly for public safety and rights.
