Although two years have elapsed since the current government came to power, the only promise fulfilled so far to the estate people is increasing the wages of plantation workers, Tamil Progressive Alliance Deputy Leader MP Palani Digambaram said.
He stated this during a meeting of senior leaders of the National Workers Union and the National Workers Front held in Hatton town yesterday.
Speaking further, MP Digambaram mentioned that he and the country's Opposition remained silent until the current government completed two years in power.
The Parliamentarian noted that because promises made to come to power were not fulfilled, Tamil political parties and Muslim political parties joined together and formed an alliance to obtain those promises, adding that he was also invited to meet the President for discussions with that alliance.
He said the Tamil Progressive Alliance met the President on several occasions and requested land promised to the estate people, during which the President asked his alliance where the land was to be given to estate workers.
Pointing out that a majority of people in the country joined to bring the National People's Power to power, he further mentioned that under the current government's administration, those people left the National People's Power by now.
