Female three-wheeler driver killed in bus collision

Malimbada Police said a woman driving a three-wheeler died, and her daughter sustained serious injuries in a road crash near Weragoda Junction on the Kadduwa - Kamburupitiya road last afternoon (26).

The person who died in the crash is a 43-year-old resident of the Akuressa area.

Police investigations revealed that at the time of the crash, the three-wheeler travelling towards Kamburupitiya attempted to overtake a bus travelling in the same direction.

The crash occurred when the three-wheeler collided with the bus, causing the female driver to fall onto the road and get run over by the bus.

Steps were taken to admit the seriously injured female three-wheeler driver and her daughter to the Matara General Hospital.

Hospital sources confirmed the female driver died after admission to the hospital.

Malimbada Police arrested the driver of the bus involved in the crash, and further investigations regarding the incident are underway.
