Former Management Service Officer of the Department of Motor Traffic Wijesekara Arachchige Chandra Vijayasekara, arrested by the Bribery Commission in connection with an illegal vehicle transfer at the department, was ordered to be released on two personal bails of Rs. 500,000 each by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today (27).
The magistrate, who imposed a travel ban on the suspect, ordered the court registrar to notify the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration of the order.
The person released on bail in this manner is Wijesekara Arachchige Chandra Vijayasekara, who was a former Management Service Officer of the Department of Motor Traffic.
Investigating officers informed the court that the suspect was arrested on charges of acting to register a motor vehicle, which was illegally imported into the country without Sri Lanka Customs clearance and without paying customs duties, at the Department of Motor Traffic.
The Bribery Commission informed the court that it was revealed that this suspect acted to enter it into the computer system of the Department of Motor Traffic after providing a counter number to execute the first transfer of the relevant motor vehicle.
The commission submitted facts to the court stating that five suspects related to this incident were released on bail by now, and that this suspect is the sixth suspect.
Accordingly, the magistrate, who considered the facts presented, ordered the suspect to be released on bail and adjourned the case.
