Victoria Reservoir water level drops sharply

The water level of the Victoria Reservoir has dropped rapidly due to the prevailing dry weather, causing the ruins of the old Theldeniya town to re-emerge.

Reservoir engineers stated that the total water capacity has decreased to 35.14% and the water level has fallen to 410.78 metres above mean sea level.

The maximum water level of the Victoria Reservoir is 438.04 metres, and when this level is reached, the first of its eight automatic spill gates opens for spilling.

The current water capacity of the reservoir has dropped to 256.03 million cubic metres, and the daily outflow is three times the amount of water received by the reservoir, according to the reporter.

Several ruins of the town, including submerged old roads and bridges previously used for transportation, can now be observed as the water level recedes.
