Charith Abeysinghe returned to prison failing to fulfil bail conditions

Charitha Abeysinghe, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya former Horana electorate organiser, was taken back to prison after failing to satisfy bail conditions despite being granted bail earlier in the day.

Abeysinghe, along with lawyer Rakhitha Rajapakse and former director of Airport and Aviation Services Sri Lanka Limited Aruna Sri Chathuranga, was remanded over an alleged incident of soliciting and receiving a bribe from the wife of alleged organised criminal 'Harak Kata' to provide facilities.

Court correspondents reported that the other suspects in the case — Rakhitha Rajapakshe and Aruna Sri Chathuranga — successfully deposited their bail as ordered.

However, since the suspect Charitha Abeysinghe could not fulfil the stipulated bail conditions, prison authorities escorted him back from court around 5.30 p.m.

The court had earlier ordered each suspect to post a cash bail of 100,000 rupees along with two sureties of 50 million rupees each, accompanied by a travel ban preventing all suspects from leaving the country.
