Esala Full Moon Poya Day is today

Today marks the Esala Poya Day, which is considered a significant religious day for Buddhists of the country.

This noble day is special as numerous significant events have occured in the Buddhist history.

The Bodhisathva Siddhartha was conceived in the womb of Queen Mahamaya on such a day, after examining the five great observations.

Prince Siddhartha also renounced household life for the Great Departure, and Prince Rahula was born on the same Esala Full Moon Poya Day.

The Buddha also preached the Dhammachakkappavattana Sutta to the group of five ascetics for the first time on an Esala Poya Day.

For many such noble reasons, Esala Poya becomes a very special day for Buddhists.
