Youth helps recover phone snatched by monkey

A mobile phone valued at approximately Rs. 100,000, that was snatched by a monkey at the Trincomalee Koneswaram Temple, was rescued and returned to its owner, by a youth from Eppawala.

The youth, Velihenagamage Ruwan Kumara, recovered the mobile phone. Ruwan is a resident of the 22nd Post, Yakallegama, Eppawala.

On the day of the incident, Ruwan was on a trip to Trincomalee with his family members when he spotted a monkey carrying a phone.

Trying various methods, he finally succeeded in recovering the phone from the monkey.

After recovering the phone, he managed to find the owner using the SIM card. He was able to find that the phone belonged to a schoolgirl who had visited the temple with a group of pilgrims from Ananda Nagar, Kilinochchi.

It was also learned that the phone contained a great deal of information related to her educational activities.

Accordingly, under the instructions of the traffic division officer-in-charge of the Eppawala Police Station, he handed the mobile phone over to the student's father, Suryakumar Kugadasan, yesterday (28) afternoon.
