Attorney General to appeal decision on 'Harak Kata'

The Attorney General informed the Colombo High Court today (03) that an appeal will be submitted against the decision recently given stating that charges under the Prevention of Terrorism Act cannot be maintained against five defendants, including Nadun Chinthaka Wickramaratne, alias 'Harak Kata', who are accused of conspiring to escape while in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department.

The State Counsel appearing on behalf of the Attorney General made this notification when the case was called before Colombo High Court Judge Buddhika C. Ragala today (03).

The High Court Judge informed that the order regarding the bail request of these suspects will be made on August 20, after considering the bail request subsequently.

Meanwhile, the judge also ordered that defendant 'Harak Kata', who remains in detention at the Tangalle Old Prison, be detained in a suitable prison as the charges under the Prevention of Terrorism Act related to these suspects were removed.
