Landslide red alerts were issued for the Ududumbara, Ganga Ihala Korale, and Pasbage Korale Divisional Secretariat divisions in the Kandy District.
Additionally, the National Building Research Organisation acted to issue landslide red alerts to the Yatiyantota Divisional Secretariat division in the Kegalle District as well as the Ambagamuwa and Norwood Divisional Secretariat divisions in the Nuwara Eliya District.
All schools in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts are closed today due to the prevailing adverse weather, Central Province Education Secretary Madupani Piyasena said.
Furthermore, the university management took steps yesterday to temporarily suspend academic activities at the University of Peradeniya until further notice owing to the adverse weather conditions.
