Water levels of Castlereagh and Maussakelle reach spill level

The water levels of the Castlereagh and Maussakelle reservoirs have reached spill level due to heavy rainfall.

By this afternoon (4), the water level of the Castlereagh Reservoir had risen to within three feet of the spill level.

Meanwhile, engineers in charge of the reservoir said the catchment area had received up to 162 millimetres of rainfall during the past 24 hours.

The Maussakelle Reservoir has come within 3.7 feet of its spill level after the area received 125 millimetres of rainfall over the past 24 hours.

According to engineers overseeing the Canyon, Laxapana, New Laxapana, Polpitiya, and Wimalasurendra hydropower plants, electricity generation has reached peak capacity as reservoir water levels continue to rise.
