Colombo Mayor pledges action to reclaim misused public property

Colombo Mayor Vraîe Cally Balthazaar assured to take proper action against neglected and misused public property throughout the D4 Administrative District of the Colombo municipality after inspecting multiple locations yesterday(4).

An unfinished building discovered during the tour has received public funding for its construction over fifteen years.

Because the Road Development Authority expanded local roadways and displaced the current depot and district office, clearing operations on the neglected site to start immediately.

Public funds must avoid waste while valuable assets find proper use.

Another inspection site revealed an unlawfully occupied children’s playground converted into a garage.

Public spaces belong strictly to communities rather than private ventures, prompting vows for firm reclamation measures.

Discussions at the Jathika Pola highlighted necessary immediate enhancements alongside long-term sustainability plans.

Meanwhile, visits to Ashroff Watte addressed persistent drainage issues affecting local residents, with coordinated efforts aimed at improving living conditions.

The administration remains dedicated to preventing the misuse of public property to ensure taxpayer resources serve community needs.
