An increase in the prevailing rainy and windy conditions in the south-western parts of the island is expected from today over the next few days due to the active south-west monsoon, the Department of Meteorology stated in an announcement.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts, where skies will remain cloudy.
Heavy rain above 100 mm can occur at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Galle districts.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Ampara, Batticaloa, and Monaragala districts after 2:00 p.m.
Fairly strong winds of about 40 to 50 km/h can occur at times in the North-Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central, and North-Western provinces.
The department requests the public to take necessary precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
