The decision taken by the government to reverse the proposed amendment, which aimed to weaken public access to declarations of assets and liabilities under the Anti-Corruption Act No. 9 of 2023, is a significant victory achieved by democratic forces, the 'Dinana Dakuna' collective emphasised.
Issuing a statement, the collective said that it is a success for the civil society that the government was forced to step back from its arbitrary decision in the face of continuous voices raised by anti-corruption civil organisations and the public.
The 'Dinana Dakuna' collective called on the President to focus attention on the strong opposition that emerged within society regarding the extension of the retirement age of Supreme Court judges, just as the government demonstrated flexibility concerning the amendment to the Anti-Corruption Act.
