Bill for 22nd Amendment to Constitution gazetted

The Bill for the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution was published via gazette.

With this, provisions are granted for the retirement age of a Supreme Court judge to be increased to 67 years, and the age of a Court of Appeal judge is proposed to be increased to 65 years. The bill states that the retirement age of a Chief Justice will be considered as 67 years or the date on which a tenure of 06 years is completed, whichever date comes first.

The bill proposes to increase the number of judges who can be appointed to the Court of Appeal from 19 to 24.
