The unrest that arose within the Dalupotha Pallansena prison was completely controlled by now, the Prison Department announced.
During the incident, all necessary measures were immediately taken to ensure the security of the prison, and as a result no damages occurred to the buildings or other state property of the prison, officials mentioned.
By around 12 midnight yesterday, the situation within the prison premises returned completely to normal, and reports indicate that additional security teams withdrew after security forces controlled the situation.
The prison premises remained in a calm atmosphere at that time. By today morning (08), relatives arrived at the prison as usual to visit inmates, and the prison administration took steps to provide the necessary facilities and permission for them to meet.
Accordingly, the daily operations of the prison also functioned as usual.
Meanwhile, 78 inmates were transferred to other prisons due to security and administrative reasons, the Prison Department added. Out of that group, 28 inmates were directed to the Welikada Prison Hospital for further medical treatment and medical examinations.
Further investigations to these incidents are underway, and the Prison Department further stated that all necessary steps were taken to continuously maintain the security and normal operations of the prison.
