Suspect arrested with illegal foreign cigarettes

A suspect was arrested yesterday (09) along with a stock of illegally stored foreign cigarettes during a special joint search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and the Puttalam Police Special Task Force in the Mullipuram area of Puttalam.

The search operation was carried out in the Mullipuram area of Puttalam jointly by Sri Lanka Naval Ship Vijaya and the Puttalam Police Special Task Force, based on information received by Sri Lanka Naval Ship Thambapanni of the Northwestern Naval Command.

A suspicious house was inspected during the operation, and a stock of 7,000 illegally stored foreign cigarettes was found, the Navy stated.

The suspect arrested during this operation is a 49-year-old resident of the Norochcholai area.

The arrested suspect and the stock of illegal cigarettes were handed over to the Puttalam Police Station for further legal proceedings.
