Authorities urged to address teacher shortages

The Ministry Advisory Committee on Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education discussed raising the quality of school education, filling teacher vacancies, formalising the teacher transfer process, and improving required facilities for schools in difficult areas.

The discussion took place during the committee meeting in Parliament held chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

It is noted that attention was drawn to accelerating the new recruitment process to minimise the prevailing teacher shortage especially for science and mathematics subjects, and taking required measures after identifying areas with teacher requirements.
