Kandy Esala Procession commence rituals with Kap planting ceremony

The auspicious planting of the 'kap' at the four major devalayas was held at the auspicious time of 6.17 a.m. today(13).

The Kap planting ceremony marks the commencement of the ritual of the annual Esala procession of the historic Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy.


The first Kumbal procession will commence street parades on August 18, and the parades will continue till August 22.

The first Randoli procession will commence street parades on August 23.

The final Randoli procession is scheduled to parade the streets on the Nikini Full Moon Poya day, August 27.
