No power cuts despite coal shortages

Power disruptions will not be imposed in the future due to any shortage of coal, assured Ports, Civil Aviation and Energy Minister Anura Karunathilaka.

The public should not be unduly concerned by claims made by certain opposition figures regarding potential power cuts resulting from coal shortages, the minister stated.

An additional 400 megawatts of electricity generated through wind power projects is expected to connect to the national grid within the next year, further enhancing the renewable energy capacity of the country, Ports, Civil Aviation and Energy Minister Anura Karunathilaka added.
