Construction work on the Kurunegala to Dambulla section of the Central Expressway will start this year, Matale District Parliamentarian Sunil Biyanwila said.
The Parliamentarian made these remarks today (17) while joining a new programme with National Youth Corps teams under the 'Clean Sri Lanka' initiative to repair dilapidated equipment at the Dambulla Veera Denzil Kobbekaduwa Base Hospital.
Addressing the project, the MP pointed out that major issues concerning land acquisition, compensation amounts, and residents on lands governed by the Temple Lands (Compensation) Ordinance were gradually being resolved.
Discussions regarding compensation payments concluded through multiple meetings, with the final meeting scheduled for tomorrow (18) in Kurunegala.
The Kurunegala-Dambulla expressway section also drew attention in Parliament.
Authorities intend to expedite the work through multiple contractors following the President's instructions.
Constructing the segment of the expressway is expected to contribute positively to areas such as Dambulla and Galewela while benefiting tourists.
