Land or financial relief considered for farmers affected by Puhuloya reservoir

Authorities evaluate options to provide either land or financial reimbursement to farmers who lost their properties during the construction of the Puhuloya reservoir. Deputy agriculture minister Namal Karunarathne acknowledges the fair demands of agriculturalists affected by the project initiated over fifteen years ago.

Discussions determine the most suitable approach following recent protests by individuals demanding long-overdue settlements for lands surrendered in 2011. The joint Sri Lanka-Iran project involved constructing dams at Mathetilla and Dyraaba at a cost of 76.3 billion rupees to divert water through dual tunnels, benefiting the public while initial promises of reimbursement remained delayed.
