The first Kumbal procession of the Kandy Esala Festival is scheduled to parade the streets today at the auspicious time of 6.52 p.m.
The procession will parade Dalada Veediya, Colombo Street, Yatinuwara Veediya, and Raja Veediya before returning to the Temple of the Tooth.
Police Media Spokesperson ASP F.U. Wootler said that a special traffic and security plan is operational starting today for the Esala procession. Speaking at a press conference held in Colombo yesterday, he noted that nearly 8,000 police officers and other security personnel are deployed for security during this year's festival.
