The Paddy Marketing Board purchased a total of 33,666 metric tonnes of paddy under its ongoing procurement programme, according to Chairperson Manjula Pinnalanda. The highest volumes were acquired from the Ampara and Batticaloa districts, following the launch of the initiative on June 13.
Harvesting concluded in numerous regions while beginning in districts such as Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, and Puttalam. Storage facilities in those areas were opened concurrently with the start of the harvest to support local farmers.
Operations currently rely on around 120 warehouses managed by the board for purchasing and storing the grain.
