Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today (18) ordered police to provide the necessary security for the individual known as 'Shiran Basik', who is being detained and questioned at the Colombo Central Crime Investigation Bureau under the Prevention of Terrorism Act over alleged involvement in a drug trafficking network.
The court issued this order following submissions made by his attorney-at-law Vasantha Pitigala, stating that there is no proper security for the suspect, who is being held near the Narahenpita Police Station at the Colombo Central Crime Investigation Bureau.
The attorney informed the court that his client is taken on foot by the police every morning from the Narahenpita Police Station to the Central Crime Investigation Bureau.
The attorney pointed out that his life could be under threat as a result and therefore requested the court to issue an order directing the police to ensure his safety.
Considering the facts, the magistrate ordered the Narahenpita Police and the Director of the Central Crime Investigation Bureau to provide proper security for the suspect.
