Deputy Minister of Defence links shootings to evidence destruction

Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara said recent shootings were clear attempts to destroy evidence.

He made these remarks yesterday (23) while attending the "Adithana" meeting held in Kalutara, which was comprised of retired members of the tri-forces representing the National People's Power.

Expressing further views, the Deputy Minister of Defence stated:

"We brought 58 large-scale criminals who had red notices issued against them back to this country from abroad recently. They were living luxuriously in mansions in those countries with vehicles and helicopters. Back then, when politicians went there, they enjoyed those luxuries with them and carried out these things.
When were these seen on television, who held press conferences about these? Because of the success of the work we did, these opposition groups are behaving this way..."

"There was a law that had gone wild in our country. It was not just one political group, but many groups that were ousted. It is also correct to say that they are a group of the most severe and terrifying organised criminals. Taking over a destroyed and collapsed country, we are proceeding with financial discipline. Money in every sector has been collected properly and the economic situation has been brought up. Within the past 15 months, we made a huge leap forward in the economy. We reached the level of countries achieving high economic growth."
