Dry weather expected to continue until end of next month

The Department of Meteorology says the severe dry weather currently affecting many areas of the island can be expected until about the end of next month.

However, Director General of the Department Ajith Wijemanna stated that a slight increase in rainfall can be expected in several areas of the island, including the south-western parts, in the coming few days.

Against this backdrop, the districts of Ampara, Badulla, Batticaloa, Monaragala, Polonnaruwa, Ratnapura, and Hambantota are severely affected by the dry weather.

Accordingly, the Disaster Management Centre stated that 81,865 persons from 25,628 families in those districts are affected.

Furthermore, the data report issued by the Disaster Management Centre indicates that drinking water was distributed to 72,153 people affected by the water crisis in those districts.
