D. M. Keerthisena, a resident of Kohombankulama, Galgamuwa, arrived home unexpectedly today (24) in this manner.
Nanneriya Police informed his relatives that he, who was detained at the Wariyapola Prison, died while inside the prison.
Relatives and villagers, deeply shocked and grieved by this message, together took immediate steps to organise the funeral.
While funeral banners were put up across the village, frames for the funeral house were being erected, and all arrangements were being prepared for the cremation, Keerthisena arrived home alive, leaving everyone astonished.
Residents expressed strong protest over serious flaws and negligence in information sharing among prison and police authorities following this incident, and villagers say that responsible authorities must immediately conduct an investigation into this major confusion of information and serious mistake that occurred.
