Prajashakthi programme reviews 2026 progress, 2027 plans

A discussion regarding the progress review of the "Prajashakthi" programme for the year 2026 and plans for 2027, which is implemented as the government's main programme aiming to eradicate poverty, empower society, and ensure economic fairness, was held yesterday (24) at the President's Office.

This was held under the patronage of the Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment Upali Pannilage and the Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.

It was emphasised here that around 23,000 projects were implemented using provisions of 23 billion rupees from the Rs. 25 billion allocated from the 2026 budget for the "Prajashakthi" program, and the ability exists to complete all those projects within this year.

Furthermore, it was revealed here that provisions of another 2,000 million were directed for special model projects and enterprise development programs, and projects identified through those programs are expected to be implemented under the Prajashakthi program in the future.

The Minister issued instructions here that preparation of the Prajashakthi national data and information system was completed, and Community Development Council officers as well as Divisional Secretariat officers must be directed promptly to input data and information for it.

Further instructions were given that the Village Development Plan (VDP) in the coming year must be prepared entirely through this data system, and officers of Divisional Secretariats should be directed for that promptly.

President's Senior Additional Secretary Kapila Janaka Bandara informed that plans are set to start the first program of this in the Puttalam District on the upcoming 2nd and 3rd of September.
