The Department of Railways has issued a special circular regarding the use of social media during duty hours and the prevention of sensitive train operation details from being leaked to the public.
The circular, issued under the signature of the General Manager of Railways, further states that strict legal action will be taken against officers who act in violation of its instructions.
The Sri Lanka Railways Department stated that this circular was issued after observing a trend where certain officers and employees of the department were publishing sensitive information on social media during working hours and duty-related situations.
It is noted that the circular was issued because publishing such sensitive information on social media severely jeopardises the credibility, passenger safety, and institutional discipline of the railway service.
