Scam racket targeting youth with fake Canadian job visas exposed

A racket involving scamming millions by providing forged documents under the pretext of granting job visas and relocating people to Canada is currently operating in several areas.

Young men and women are predominantly being targeted by this scam operated from Dubai, and yesterday's (27) CIA exposure is regarding this matter.

The primary plan to target mostly Tamil youth by promising to provide Canadian job visas is being executed by an individual residing in Dubai.

The individual concerned had disclosed to a woman who connected with him via a phone call the manner in which Canadian jobs would be provided.

During the conversation, he had instructed her to speak with two people in Colombo.

Stating that those two individuals were elderly, they had mentioned that the total cost would be Rs. 4.5 million.

Accordingly, the two elderly individuals had summoned the youth expecting Canadian employment to Colombo and had also arranged to obtain their fingerprints.

Meanwhile, the two elderly individuals involved in this scam had obtained nearly Rs. 5 million from the youth for fingerprints as well as for visas and air tickets.

Having collected money for Canadian jobs from the youth on multiple occasions, these individuals had subsequently avoided the youth by not answering phone calls.

Accordingly, the youth who grew suspicious regarding these job visas had taken them to the Canadian Embassy in Sri Lanka to inquire, whereupon the officials there stated that these were fraudulently prepared visas.

Upon realising that this fake Canadian visa racket would be exposed through Hiru CIA, the main scammer in Dubai issued threats to the woman concerned by sending an audio clip via WhatsApp:

"You better know, I know everything about where you are, do not play around too much. You do not even know who we are. I have seen more people than you. I have also taken money from more people than you. Do not play around too much.. that is all."
