A ten-day-old baby and two others died this morning following a collision between a jeep and a three-wheeler in the Gonamariyawa area along the Kabithigollewa–Medawachchiya main road.
Police stated that, in addition to the infant, the grandmother, aged 49, and her daughter, aged 26, both from the same family in the Padaviya area, were killed in the accident.
The victims were travelling to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital to seek treatment for the infant when the collision occurred.
Police stated that the driver of the three-wheeler sustained minor injuries and was admitted to the Kabithigollewa Base Hospital.
An investigation is currently underway to determine whether the collision occurred due to the three-wheeler driver failing to control the speed of the vehicle.
Police arrested the driver of the jeep in connection with the incident.
